There are three action points for modestwear design priorities

  • Invest in items with longevity, that can be worn for multiple end-uses
  • Focus on smarter product phasing and cross-category merchandising over limited appeal capsules
  • Invest to understand regional modestwear requirements

As we embrace Ramadan and the everyday hustle, it’s essential to think smart about our wardrobe choices, especially when it comes to modest wear. We’re looking for pieces that seamlessly transition from home to the office and then to Iftar gatherings, without compromising on style or comfort.

First things first, let’s talk about comfort casuals. Think practicality meets style. We’re talking about comfy, easy-to-layer pieces that can handle the demands of Ramadan. Look out for items like a versatile stealth wealth set, cozy pyjama-inspired outfits (#BoudoirDressing for the win!), breathable tunics, elevated hoodies, oversized tops, woven joggers, and leggings that feel like a second skin.

Now, onto footwear. With regular prayer calls, we need shoes that are not just comfortable but easy to slip on and off. Mary Janes, ballet flats, slides, and sneakers without laces are our go-tos.

For those days when we’re transitioning from the office to Iftar, we need pieces that can effortlessly switch gears. Lightweight trenches, soft blazers, dresses that double as tops, work-leisure dresses, boho blouses, classic shirts, maxi skirts, and cargo trousers are your office-to-Iftar essentials.

Accessories can take your outfit from ordinary to extraordinary. Think detachable corsages, statement chains, elegant brooches, customizable embellishments, eye-catching earrings, wristwear, belts that make a statement, and printed scarves that add a pop of color.

And let’s not forget about staying cool in the hustle and bustle of the day. Opt for fabrics like cotton, silk, linen, regenerated cellulosics, and high-tech synthetics that regulate temperature. Look for qualities like #Secondskin and #Bodywear for everyday comfort.

With these tips in mind, you’ll be Ramadan-ready and everyday chic, no matter where the day takes you!

Influences

Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha modestwear trends-2024

As we approach Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, there’s a noticeable shift towards more conscious and adaptable occasionwear. People are looking for outfits that not only celebrate the festivities but also align with ongoing trends towards casualization.

Figure 4: Eid-ul Fitr and Eid-ul adha trend 2024. Source: WGSN

It’s important to steer clear of creating tokenistic capsule collections. Instead, focus on re-commerce and modifying existing ranges to meet the evolving needs of the market. Hiring market experts with experience in modestwear design can offer invaluable insights into the specific requirements of this niche.

When it comes to design, consider scaling back on maximalist trims, prints, and embellishments. Instead, offer more versatile pieces that can be layered over or under other items, or easily elevated with the right accessories. Look out for key items like full skirts, maxi skirts, boho dresses, column dresses, #ElegantSimplicity dresses, fluid blouses, draped tops, ruffle-trimmed overcoats, and plissé top and trouser sets.

Market your collections by showcasing multiple ways to wear them. Consider creating #Layering tutorials demonstrating various outfit builds, and share Get Ready With Me (GRWM) reels to engage with your audience. Take inspiration from successful approaches like Twiice Boutique in Australia and collaborate with influencers to demonstrate styling opportunities. Additionally, tapping into insights from reports like the Gen Z: Muslim Digital Behaviours can provide further ideas for marketing strategies tailored to your target audience.

Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are occasions of joy and celebration, and with the right approach to occasionwear, you can ensure that everyone feels confident and stylish during these special times of the year.

Travel and resortwear modestwear trends-2024

Let’s make summer styling a breeze by crafting #TravelFriendly pieces that blend lightweight fabrics with modest silhouettes, ensuring comfort and breathability wherever your adventures take you.

In response to the growing trend of minimizing luggage, our focus is on cabin-bag-friendly clothing that’s both practical and stylish. We’re talking about fuss-free, interchangeable vacation wear that’s light on weight and space. Think crease-free, modular, and packable garments that are perfect for wearing both on the journey and at the destination. Look out for essentials like lightweight cargo trousers, versatile packable travel sets, beach-to-business shirts, #SummerSensuality dresses, resort maxis, and city-to-beach trousers.

Investing in good-coverage lightweight fabrics is key. Not only do they provide the necessary level of skin coverage for modesty and sun protection, but they also offer comfort in rising global temperatures. We’re prioritizing climate-adaptive styles and cooling fibers, especially in active, swim, and cover-up pieces that excel in both fashion and performance. Keep an eye out for protective sun tops, layering tanks, and rash suits to stay cool and protected under the sun.

With these #TravelFriendly summer pieces in your wardrobe, you can jet off to your favorite destinations with ease, knowing you’re prepared for any adventure that comes your way.

With Ramadan everyday wear, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha occasionwear, and travel-friendly resortwear in focus, there’s a wealth of options catering to various occasions and preferences.

The forecasted growth in the modest fashion market presents exciting opportunities for designers and brands alike. By embracing longevity in design, smarter product phasing, and a deep understanding of regional requirements, we can ensure that modestwear continues to thrive and evolve alongside shifting consumer demands.

Layered Magic with a Cape or Jacket:

This layering technique adds depth and dimension to your party look.

Accessorize with Panache:

  • Accessories play a crucial role in completing your party wear saree look. Elevate your ensemble with statement jewelry such as chandelier earrings, a maang tikka, or a bold cocktail ring. Consider a stylish clutch or potli bag to complement the saree’s color palette. The right pair of heels can add the finishing touch, making you feel confident and ready to own the party.

What is Second Life?

Second Life, often abbreviated as SL, is a virtual world created by Linden Lab, where users can interact, socialize, and create their own digital personas. It’s not just a game; it’s an immersive, user-driven environment that has gained popularity since its launch in 2003. One of the most intriguing aspects of Second Life is its vibrant fashion scene.

The Allure of Second Life Fashion

Imagine having a limitless wardrobe filled with designer clothing, accessories, and hairstyles. Second Life allows you to do just that. In this virtual world, you can transform your avatar into anything you desire, from a chic urbanite to a fantastical creature. The options are virtually endless, and creativity knows no bounds.

How Second Life Fashion Works

In Second Life, fashion is driven by user-generated content. Talented designers and creators develop virtual fashion items that users can purchase and wear. These items can range from clothing and shoes to intricate jewelry and hairstyles. Many of these virtual creations are inspired by real-world fashion trends, while others are entirely unique to Second Life.

Stay tuned for the next part, where we’ll delve deeper into the Second Life fashion ecosystem and discover the latest trends.

The Second Life Marketplace

One of the primary hubs for Second Life fashion enthusiasts is the Second Life Marketplace. It’s a digital marketplace where users can buy and sell virtual fashion items. Here, designers showcase their creations, and residents of Second Life can browse, purchase, and enhance their avatars with these fashion items.

Fashion Events and Shows

Just like the fashion industry in the real world, Second Life has its own runway shows and events. Creators organize fashion events to showcase their latest designs, and models strut their stuff down the virtual catwalks. These events are not only a great way to discover new fashion trends but also to socialize and network with other fashion enthusiasts.

Customization and Creativity

Second Life’s fashion scene thrives on customization and creativity. Most fashion items in Second Life are modifiable, meaning users can adjust colors, textures, and sizes to suit their preferences. This level of customization allows for truly unique and personalized avatars.

Trends in Second Life Fashion

Just like in the real world, Second Life fashion has its trends. These trends can be influenced by popular culture, real-world fashion, and even fantasy themes. One moment you might see a wave of futuristic cyberpunk fashion, and the next, a resurgence of vintage styles from the 1920s. Keeping up with these trends can be exciting and challenging, but it’s all part of the Second Life fashion experience.

Becoming a Second Life Fashionista

Now that we’ve explored the Second Life fashion ecosystem, let’s discuss how you can become a part of this dynamic and creative community.

Creating Your Avatar

Your journey into Second Life fashion begins with creating your avatar. You can customize your avatar’s appearance, from their facial features to body shape and size. This is where you start crafting your unique virtual identity.

Building Your Wardrobe

Once your avatar is ready, it’s time to build your wardrobe. You can start with the free items provided to newcomers, but the real fun begins when you start exploring the Second Life Marketplace. Look for designers and stores that align with your style preferences and start collecting fashion items that resonate with you.

Joining Fashion Communities

In Second Life, you’ll find numerous fashion communities and groups where enthusiasts share tips, trends, and recommendations. Joining these communities can be a great way to connect with like-minded individuals, get fashion advice, and stay updated on the latest events and releases.

Fashion & Festival

Fashion & Festival

When do you think about Eid or Puja what comes first in your mind? Isn’t it about your dress up and makeover! Yes, it’s all about fashion. Nowadays, our clothes are more or less festival based.

Now if we are talking about fashion, we should know it’s all begun with “Nipun”, in 1973, officially a fashion industry in Bangladesh. The next milestone was “Aarong”, founded in 1978. Basically, our industry is based on festivals. The fashion houses make the most money during Eid-ul-Fitr, Durga Puja. The rest is during the Pohela Boishak, Falgun, Valentine’s day. In every festive season, this fashion trend changes. As many trends emerge, every designer tries to grab attention with his unique works.

Now if we look back the past two years we can get a clear picture of how these trends changed.

Female friends out shopping together

Female friends out shopping together

In 2018. Loose pants, loose trousers, side-striped trousers paired up with regular T-Shirt was enough for men to create a trendy and casual look. Hawaiian shirts, bowling shirts in pastels, and of course long blazer significantly reminded us about 50s’ style. For women, heavy abaya style dress or salwar suit flared shararas, embellished bottom, cigarette pants were trendy. Young ones preferred light color with a natural look. Again, the color blocking techniques really boomed that year. There were three ways: monochromatic (one color throughout the entire outfit in different shades), separate (contrasting colors mixed garments), and stand-alone (one color-blocked garment). 2018 was full of dramas for makeup. Black eyeliner took a dramatic turn, just trace it around both eyeliners, wing it out at a dramatic angle. The cat’s-eye flick got a new look. In 2018, metallic makeup in all shades was very trendy.

But those trends had to change in 2019. We can see changes in the pattern of the garments. Animal motifs were hugely used in pants, jackets, bags, scarfs, and so on. Patchwork was highly recommended. It was used in jumpsuits, pants, and more. As colorful as it is creative. Different types of shoulders were seen like puff shoulders. Dazzling bright colors and prominent bold patterns were really mind-blowing. Abstract prints were also popular and loved by young girls. The neon display was also on the rise with appealing hue and simple block prints. Girls were very fascinated about the different cut of a blouse like sleeveless, high collar, boat neck, Koli cut, choli cut, contrast blouse, etc. The young generation was much interested in local fabrics. Bold colors for makeup were used in 2019. Pink eyeshadow had gotten softer in tone and formula, making it easier to wear. It was more haphazard, messy-but-cool looking undone-but-done, far from perfect makeup is a thing.

In 2020, this pandemic situation, our fashion industry is highly affected. Still, we are trying to go with the flow. In this Eid, printed lawn dress, embroidered chiffon, or printed silk were preferable. For pants, fringe trouser pants, cigarette pants, bell bottoms, tulip pants, pencil pants were highly demanded. Kurtis with floral motif or shirts; asymmetrical design, digital mixed prints, silk tunic were chosen by young girls. Slim fit Punjabi with Islamic motif, sleeve & button plate with separate fabrics were seen. This year cool and deep dyeing shirts are classy as check shirts. For a casual look, jeans or trousers with combo patches, T-Shirt or shoulder tape two pockets shirts pair up with light color loafers/snicker/chinos are perfect. Polka dot, geometric pattern is trendy this year. Easy, breezy, and breathable handloom fabrics are suitable for this festive season. Handloom fabrics dyed with organic vegetable-based dyes are used which have been ethically sourced, last much longer, they are eco-friendly and comfortable. Soft lightweight kurtas, saris salwar kameez earthy shades of indigo, mustard, fawn, terracotta, and henna are more preferable. For makeup, this year all you need to do is line your lower lashes with either the same color or lighter shade than the one of the top. Forget a bold red lip, rather go for a bright pink lipstick. Matte will be much convenient than a creamy one. Animal paint on your eyelashes will create a super creative and cool look.

So, this is about our fashion trends which changed gradually. As we wear yellow in Falgun, red in valentine’s, colorful and vibrant something in Eid or puja, so the fashion changes. In so many years our style, choice, trends changed in many ways and hopefully, it will keep changing.

What more can I say, for me – Fashion is a festival in its own way.
