Introduction:
Global apparel market is a giant economic entity (figure 1) contributing 2% of the worldwide economy. As a consequence of its large size, conventional textile manufacturing is incurred to generate huge waste globally (figure 2) where textile recycling is becoming paramount. In the current era, promoting a circular economy through recycling is a burning demand worldwide, intending to minimize carbon footprints and environmentally detrimental waste generation. Textile recycling in order to initiate the transformation of the linear economy (manufacture, use, disposal) to a circular economy (manufacture, use, recycle, reuse) in terms of reducing waste and pollutants not only can contribute to the environment (figure 3) and sustainability, but new employments and a holistic economic benefit as well. The circular economy is expected to contribute to a net economic benefit of €1.8 trillion by 2030, according to the consultancy firm McKinsey, which should stimulate us to introduce new policies and actuate a circular supply chain for both environmental and economic benefits.

Current Trends and Innovations of textile recycling:
The cutting-edge textile recycling process comprises second-hand use of apparel, industrial new product generation and new fashion innovation by the designers, from the post-consumption waste (discarded cloths) and post-industrial waste (by-product materials during manufacturing; figure 5). Three types of recycling happen in the current convention (figure 6).

Barriers and Challenges of Textile Recycling:
Though fast fashion is the key driver of the growth of the textile and fashion industries, it intensively minimizes the product life cycle of goods due to early disposals, provoking the need for recycling. Barriers to textile recycling include its economic viability, composition of textile products, non-availability of recyclable textile materials, technological limitations, lack of information and limited public participation; poor coordination, and weak policies and standards (Leal Filho et al., 2019).
Conclusion:
Sustainability through textile recycling and circular economy can mitigate the defamation of the textile sector to contribute to global pollution on a huge level. In contrast, adopting a recycling policy of textile waste into value-added goods via supply chain replenishment and initiating a circular economy can introduce new employment, extensive economic benefits as well as a more sustainable world. We hope to see our textile production with zero waste that is meeting our demands for the second fundamental human need worldwide.

Our dean often says one thing: ‘God made man, and we textilians are making gentlemen’.

Textiles are the mainstay of fashion. They include a wide range of materials, including natural fibers such as cotton, silk, and wool, as well as synthetic fibers such as polyester and nylon. Each textile brings unique properties and characteristics, such as texture, drape, and breathability, that contribute to the overall look and function of the garment.
Effect:
Clothing constantly has a transformative impact on fashion. By creating visual efects through various patterns, prints, and embellishments, the design is enhanced and easily captures the eye. In addition, textiles affect the fit and movement of clothing on the body, emphasizing comfort and wearability. Different textiles also have different durability and care requirements, ensuring the longevity and maintenance of the products.
Exclusivity:
The choice of textile can determine the exclusivity of fashion. Luxury fashion often includes high-quality and rare fabrics, enhancing the quality and choices of clothing. Exclusivity can also be achieved through the use of custom or limited-edition textiles, designed specifically for a particular collection or designer.

We can’t deny but calling a spade a spade that textile waste is a matter of great concern globally. Especially when it comes to the topic of fast fashion, then it cuts a sorry figure as it keeps a negative impact on the environment by consuming enormous amounts of water & energy. But we can bid fair if the recycling process & circular economy is introduced.
What is Circular Economy:
It’s a strategy of producing & consuming materials & components which introduces recycling process & reduction of waste. Minimizing maximum waste & pollution by ensuring maximum efficiency of resources is the main goal of the circular economy.

A dynamic process which includes recovery of old clothing & other textiles for reusing or to recover materials is called textile recycling. It is a matter of glad that some companies are bringing upcycling practice into their habit.

Socio-Economic Advantage of Textile Recycling:
Textile recycling not only ensures environmental & ecological advantages but also it brings socio-economic impacts vastly.
- Product diversification can be introduced where some recycled fibres such as cotton, wool and cashmere, collected from both pre and post-consumer waste.
- Energy efficiency can be increased.
- This green procurement trend is appealing to the health sector too.

Very few countries are able to utilize 50% or more of their potential recyclable materials. Also the survey says, only 5% waste can be recycled in many regions. Some other struggles are:
- Fibre Blends Hinder Separation of recyclable materials:
The sorting process for recycling becomes difficult when fibers are blended.

Lack in Technological Knowledge:
Technologies are not that much updated so that textile wastes can be sorted accurately. Chemical & mechanical textile recycling technologies are also limited.

Structure of Textile Material:
Textile materials containing different types of chemicals & dyes often rein the process of recycling.

Lack of proper standardization:
There is no proper coordination & integration of increasing efficiency of the textile recycling ecosystem. Which is affecting the industry negatively.

Limited Public Participation & Awareness:
Knowledge barrier and attitude barrier of general people is a great obstacle in case of textile recycling. It is true that all the policies and standardizations will be trivariant if the public is not awarded!

Some Pros & Cons of Circular economy:
Pros:
- It is sustainable enough,
- Using of toxic chemicals is eliminated in circular economy,
- Less pollution can be ensured,
- Products’ life span is promoted,
- Economic Process.
Cons:
- 100% circular economy may not possible to achieve,
- All the products are not suitable to bring into circular economical process,
- Small industries may fail to introduce this process for not having technological knowledge.
Future of Circular economy:
Circular economy is the finest option through which take-make-waste i.e linear economy is mortified. It involves new design strategies which push consumers to use a product for a long time. It is basically the hero of a mighty environment which will save it from the cursed textile pollution by involving recycling & by reducing waste.

BUTEX Youth Development Club (BYDC) organized the Grand Finale of their flagship event- “National Textile Olympiad” on 29 July at BUTEX premises. 700 students from 33 institutes offering textile engineering courses participated in the grand event. The motto of the event was to inspire the students to enhance their textile knowledge and empower, engage, encourage and develop the youth to build a brighter future.
The Chief Guest of the event was Prof. Dr. Shah Alimuzzaman Belal, Vice Chancellor of BUTEX, Engr. Shafiqur Rahman, President of ITET, Engr. Md. Moniruzzaman Badsha, MD of FIAT Fashion Ltd, Engr. Syed Mohammad Ismail, Country Head, Archroma were the Guest of Honour.

Engr. MD. Shariful Islam (Sharif), MD of Auxicolor Bangladesh Ltd. Engr. Touhidul Islam Kakon, Joint Secretary of ITET, Engr. Abdullah Al Mahmud, DGM of Dysin Group, Dr. Md. Emdad Sarkar, Moderator, BYDC, Md. Toriqul Islam Tipu, Md. Abdullah Joy, President and Secretary of Bangladesh Student League, BUTEX were the special guests. This event was presided by Abir Mohammad Sadi, President of the BUTEX Youth Development Club.
The grand event was enlightened by the presence of the students from 32 Campuses which were: BUTEX, BUTEX Affiliated 8 Colleges : CTEC, PTEC, TECN, SKTEC, SARTEC, DWMTEC, SHTEC, SRTEC; KUET, DUET, MBSTU, JUST, NITER, BUFT, AUST, PaU, CAHS, STEC, BHETI, ISTT, ISU, HEC, SEU, WUB, NUB, GUB, CU, UU, DIU, PCIU, BUBT. The participation from these institutions numbered a boasting 700.

The Top 3 of “Article Writing Competition” and “Textile Quiz Competition” were awarded with prize money of 5000, 3000 and 2000 Taka respectively along with Certificates. And the Top 3 of Art Contest, Photography Contest and Video Presentation Competition will be given Prize Money of 3000, 2000 and 1000 Taka respectively along with Certificates.
